If you love sweet romances (PG-rating), look no further than Rachelle Ayala's Have a Hart series. The Harts are a family of San Francisco firefighters. Their family motto is Heart comes first.
Cait Hart has been married to Brian Wonder for twelve years, but does she really know him? The redheaded firefighter is dependable, loyal, and kind to others, but he's never let her probe his feelings.
Brian's life is blown open when his former high school teacher and wife of a senator dies in a car crash. When a pair of blue chow dogs show up at his mountain cabin, he is forced to tell Cait his secret--the real owner of the dogs is a boy he believes is his son.
Cait and Brian are tested on the true meaning of love when the boy goes missing and authorities suspect Brian of wrongdoing. Can two lost chow dogs save this fragile and vulnerable family?

Blue Chow Christmas was my first book in the Have A Hart Series. It is the fourth book of the series. I was able to enjoy the story as a stand alone, (though I am definitely going back to read the others along with the next Hart family story, Valentine Wedding Hound). Rachelle Ayala is a fairly new author for me. I have found her to be a brave writer. The books I have read by her, (a few that are part of box sets and a few from various series), have all been very well researched and written. I am very impressed with the skill and care she puts into those stories. I call her a brave writer because her some of her stories, like Blue Chow Christmas, deal with some parts of life we may have difficulty with. Sometimes it is a past that hurts and sometimes it deals with characters who have special needs. I love that she presents these characters and hurts in very real ways. Sometimes it can be difficult for people to relate to someone with special needs, even when we know and love them. It can be hard to realize they are capable people who just do or think of things differently than we do. Rachelle Ayala introduces us to them and teaches us love is not just for regular people while letting us discover how capable people with special needs are. At the same time Rachelle introduces us to characters who are disabled by a past they are holding on to. Sometimes you need to work through that hurt with the help of people you love. In Blue Chow Christmas we meet a character with Asperger. I have experience with family members who are on the autism spectrum. In my opinion it is not easy to write a character on the spectrum. There are so many symptoms and not everyone has the same ones. There are two boys in my family almost the same age on the spectrum. While they have some of the same symptoms they each have many differences. I personally feel Rachelle did a wonderful job with the Asperger/Autism parts. I think she wrote a realistic character giving insight to one of the ways a person on the spectrum may think. I don't wish to give spoilers but I do feel a need to let review readers know that a storyline involves a topic that has been in the news for several years, sexual abuse of a teen by a trusted adult. Rachelle handles this sensitively in my opinion. It is not graphic at all and mainly deals with the effect this has on the survivor as an adult. This storyline is one of the reasons I call her a brave writer. Ugly things happen in real life. I think our distaste of talking about it allows it to happen in some cases. Reading about it, along with it's effects on the people involved and those who love them, spreads awareness. Awareness that this happens and that there is hope for a better future. It sends the message that if you are a survivor, you are not alone. I know how much hope and strength there is in the knowledge that you aren't alone.I really enjoyed reading the story of Cait and Brian in Blue Chow Christmas. It is a different romance in that we start off with a married couple we aren't sure love each other. They each have secrets from their past that haunt them. Will they get through them? Do they truly love each other or does one love someone from their past? And just how do the blue chows fit into the story? This is one book you don't want to miss!
I recommend it for adults due to mature themes.

Blue Chow Christmas The Hart Family Have A Hart Book 4 edition by Rachelle Ayala Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Brian Wonder and Cait Hart have been married for 12 years, eloping right out of high school. No one understands their relationship. Cait's the eldest Hart sibling and spends her time being bossy and interfering with her siblings lives. Brian is a firefighter and spends more than his fair share of time at the fire station and playing video games. The Hart family doesn't get his introverted ways, but Cait does. This is an interesting story of a man wrestling with past manipulations, possible Asperger's or possibly Autism and difficulty connecting with others or expressing himself. And he's married to an outgoing, vivacious and bossy woman raised in a large, boisterous family. It does not appear to be a match for the long term. But opposites do seem to sometimes attract each other and, in this case, understand each other. Cait proves to be the support and strength Brian needs, and deserves. Brian is clearly an honest and true man struggling to win over his wife. This is a loving story of commitment, understanding and support between two very different yet loving people. The serious implications of Brian's past creates a serious danger to Cait, that makes Brian realize her importance to him. And he dramatically rises to the occasion. I wasn't convinced when I first started reading this book. But Brian and Cait won me over, quickly.
Blue Chow Christmas is a truly fantastic second chance at love story! It isn’t your typical story which is what I love the most about it. The pure uniqueness and raw honesty pulled at every part of my heart. There is more than enough mystery and danger to keep you glued to your kindle while the overflowing love and hope makes you feel every emotion that our beautiful characters experience along the way. There is nothing more exquisite then opening your mind and your heart to the one you love and keeping them close forever. Nothing is guaranteed, but some things are worth any risk to find and cherish them for as long as you can.
Cait is used to being the loud, busy-body older sister of her big family. She is an expert on how to drown her own emotions and desires while focusing on her siblings. Unsure of what to do with herself and her inner struggles, she decides to be there for her husband Brian while he mourns the loss of his favorite high school teacher. Brian isn’t sure what to make of Cait’s forward move to try to sooth him during this painful time. He isn’t sure how to deal with his wife’s sweet and unwanted comfort, so he sets his own plan in motion to get back what was taken from him. He is a man who is motivated and knows what he wants, but Cait is throwing off his confidence and determination by her uncharacteristic attention and affection. Will these two find the love they unknowingly share before an unknown danger rips the chance from them permanently?
I wasn’t ever sure what to make of Cait until now, and I was completely blown away at how much depth there is to her. She doesn’t really let anyone in even though her struggles should not be carried alone. Brian is a very interesting guy, but this story really opened my eyes to the fact that he’s a really great guy. He just doesn’t view the world the same as everyone else. He also deals with a painful past, and he doesn’t know how to reach out to Cait like he knows she needs. When these two finally get serious about reconnecting, they not only clear the air in grand style, but they also know how to make the other softly pliable through their undeniable emotional and physical connection. They have so much beautiful potential and to ignore is to only bring heartache where none should exist.
This story touched me deeply and made me crave things that I never had. The Harts are such a wonderful close knit family that would be anything for each other. Oh that makes my heart soar and yet weep at the same time. Rachelle Ayala has an uncanny way of tearing back another layer from my shielded heart. It’s truly undeniable, and I can’t stop it from bleeding a little. However, each precious story helps me to heal just a little more and teach me about things that I have never realized until now. She is truly a life-changer as she pours her whole heart and soul into each exquisite masterpiece!
